چکیده

The effects of pentaand hexadecanoic acids on the population and orientational structure of p-nitrophenol, at the airlwater interface at a bulk pH of 2, have been studied by using the technique of second-harmonic generation. The results indicate that, with increasing fatty acid at the interface, (1) the population of p-nitrophenol at the airlwater interface first increases and then decreases, (2) the long axis of p-nitrophenol is oriented increasingly toward the surface normal, and (3) the behavior of p-nitrophenol is not sensitive to the monolayer liquid-expanded-liquid-condensed phase transition. This indicates that the p-nitrophenol is adsorbed near the polar group of the fatty acid and thus is a good probe of the lipid head group region.

An Improvement in Fluorocarbon Chain Re-orientation by Reactive Dyes

There is an increasing demand for air-dry performance of fluorocarbon finished materials. Thus, dyeing with different types of reactive, mono, bi, and multi-functional, dyes was evaluated as a novel treatment to create correct surface interface to maintain fluorocarbon performance without ironing or tumble drying. The effects of pre-treatment on fluorocarbon finishing of cotton fabric, a cellul...

An Experimental Investigation of Water Effects on Asphaltene Surface Behavior through Interfacial Tension Measurements

As a physiochemical property, asphaltenes are known to be one the most surface active compounds in crude oil. Due to such property, their behavior is most probably influenced by fluid-fluid interactions at the contact surface (interface). Potentially and naturally, in most cases, water is in contact with crude oil and is co-produced with it as well. Considering that asphaltene molecules are pol...

A Hard Convex Core Yukawa Equation of State for Nonassociated Chain Molecules

The compressibility factor of nonassociated chain molecules composed of hard convex core Yukawa segments was derived with SAFT-VR and an extension of the Barker-Henderson perturbation theory for convex bodies. The temperature-dependent chain and dispersion compressibility factors were derived using the Yukawa potential. The effects of temperature, packing fraction, and segment number on the com...

Adsorption of ethylene glycol vapor on (alpha-AI2O3 (0001) and amorphous SiO2 surfaces: observation of molecular orientation and surface hydroxyl groups as sorption sites.

Vapor adsorption is an important process influencing the migration and the fates of many organic pollutants in the environment. In this study, adsorption of ethylene glycol (EG) vapor onto single crystal alpha-Al2O3 (0001) and fused SiO2 (amorphous) surfaces was studied with sum frequency generation spectroscopy, a well-suited surface specific technique for probing interfacial phenomena atthe m...
